Germany: Left-wing extremists and right-wing extremists - who is more likely to be a victim of violence?

Fists also fly in the political dispute between right and left. Left-wing extremists clearly dominate in the number of violent crimes against their opponents. In one year the discrepancy was particularly severe.

Berlin - Last year, left-wing extremists took violent action against their political opponents significantly more frequently than right-wing extremists. In total, the security authorities registered 249 violent crimes committed by left-wing extremists “against the right”, as can be seen from a response from the federal government to a request from AfD member of the Bundestag Martin Hess, which was submitted to Junge Freiheit. In contrast, 73 violent crimes were committed by right-wing extremists “against the left”.

According to this, right-wing extremists were more than three times as likely to be victims of left-wing extremist violent criminals than the other way around. Since 2019, this discrepancy has not changed much, with the exception of 2020. In that year, right-wing extremists were almost five times as likely to be victims of left-wing extremist violence as left-wing extremists. A total of 1,602 violent crimes “against the right” and 447 “against the left” have been registered by the security authorities since 2019.

In addition, 14 left-wing extremists are currently considered to be in hiding. These include five women and nine men, most of whom are assigned to Lina E.'s group. In addition, the security authorities are aware of nine threats and 75 relevant people from the left-wing scene. Due to the good “network and personal relationships,” the federal government expects the 14 people in hiding to have “significant radicalization potential.”

Hess: Resolutely fight left-wing extremists
AfD interior expert Hess criticized the Junge Freiheit's prioritization in the fight against extremism. “While the ideologically narrow-minded Interior Minister sets completely wrong priorities by overemphasizing right-wing extremism, she ignores the devastating security threats posed by left-wing extremism.” The current situation was foreseeable. It could happen at any time to anyone who “arbitrarily declares left-wing extremists to be an enemy.”

“There must be an end to trivializing left-wing extremist dangers for ideological or party-political reasons and action must finally be taken decisively and consistently,” demanded the MP. Otherwise, internal security and democracy are acutely threatened.
