Germany: Wüst accuses Scholz of failing in the deportation initiative

Berlin - "It's crunching everywhere: it can't go on like this," North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst told Stern. "And the Chancellor is in no way living up to his own claim to deport on a large scale." "Not nearly enough migration agreements are being concluded that would make returns easier." Wüst called for a debate about reception centers for refugees in third countries.

"We know that migration pressure remains high and Germany remains an attractive destination. That is why we must be open to these types of solutions," he said, referring to Great Britain and Italy, which have reception centers in Rwanda and Albania, respectively, that they want to create. “I understand the skepticism, but I ask the counter question: What if we don’t do that?” says Wüst. "A migration policy that ignores what is going on in our society puts a detonator on social cohesion."

Up to 5,000 refugees are currently coming to North Rhine-Westphalia alone every month. "The municipalities are at their limit."
