After the terrorist attack in Solingen: AfD and BSW demand asylum turnaround

While politicians from the government coalition are concerned about the knife attack in Solingen, Weidel and Wagenknecht are criticising the government in harsh terms. What consequences are they demanding?

Politicians from the AfD and the BSW have called for a stricter migration policy following the Islamist attack in Solingen. AfD chairwoman Alice Weidel called for "an immediate stop to immigration, admission and naturalization for at least five years." In addition, "groups of people with the highest crime rates" should be deported, said Weidel in an interview with ZDF.

"The key pull factors such as high social benefits, generous family reunification, simplified residence rules and hasty naturalizations must be eliminated," stressed Weidel. Without an "immediate migration turnaround," Germany is threatened with "irreversible decline in civilization."

BSW boss Wagenknecht calls for asylum turnaround
BSW boss Sahra Wagenknecht accused the politicians of the government coalition of being "resistant to learning". With "uncontrolled migration", "crime and violence in the country have increased more and more", Wagenknecht told Die Welt. Therefore, she is once again pushing for "an asylum turnaround based on the Danish model".

The fact that the suspect in the Solingen knife attack was able to evade deportation is a sign that the German state is making itself "ridiculous". "How can we believe that young men in particular would abide by the law when their first experience of Germany is that illegal entry is rewarded with a residence permit and financial benefits?" asked the politician. This is "of course also a legacy from Mrs Merkel," noted Wagenknecht, referring to the opening of the border under the then Chancellor in 2015.
