Henryk M. Broder: “The new German fascism is called Antifa”
He is one of the sharpest-tongued journalists of our time. For decades, Henryk M. Broder has been classifying current events - and sometimes likes to go all out. This is also the case in the current issue of Cato - Magazine for New Objectivity.
In a major interview, Broder draws a bitter conclusion about the explosion of anti-Semitism in Europe since Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. He says he must revise his "unbearable optimism" regarding immigration to Europe, which he previously welcomed. "I just ask myself: Why don't we have any problems with the Vietnamese? We also don't have any major problems with Russian Jews or with the Ukrainians who have moved here."
Sharp criticism of the SPD leadership
Broder sharply criticizes the lax handling of the "Nazi" accusation: When he hears "the calmness with which Lars Klingbeil calls Alice Weidel 'Nazi', then I think the problem is not Mrs. Weidel, the problem is Lars Klingbeil."
The SPD leader "obviously has an urgent need to trivialize the Nazis," because: "If Mrs. Weidel is a Nazi, then the authentic Nazis of the thirties and forties were a harmless gang."
Background: During the elephant round on the evening of the EU elections on June 9, Klingbeil spoke on the ntv channel about how "Nazis" had been strengthened in the election. When AfD federal spokeswoman Alice Weidel asked indignantly who he meant by that, Klingbeil replied: "You know that I mean the AfD and you."
Regarding the demonstrations “against the right,” Broder says: “The new German fascism is called Antifa. They run around here and shout ‘A tree, a rope, an AfD neck!’ They want to hang people, kill them.” This is “pure bloodlust,” criticizes Broder.
Criminal trials against Höcke “a judicial farce”
Broder finds the various criminal trials against the Thuringian AfD state leader Björn Höcke because of the allegedly unconstitutional phrase "Everything for Germany" completely absurd. Broder said: "These trials against Höcke are a judicial farce." He himself had not known until then that it was supposed to be an SA slogan. Höcke is just a scapegoat.
