Terror in Munich: Attacker spread IS propaganda
Munich - The man who got into a shootout with Munich police early Thursday is said to have connections to the radical Islamic scene. According to the Bild newspaper, the attacker is Emra I, who was born in Austria in 2006. The man with Bosnian roots is said to have come to the attention of the police in 2023 for spreading IS propaganda and is considered to be part of the Islamist scene.
Shortly after nine o'clock, the migrant got out of a car in front of the NS Documentation Center in Munich and shot at a police officer with an old carbine. After the security forces returned fire, Emra I. fled into a green area behind the building. There he exchanged fire again with several police officers who came to provide reinforcements. According to eyewitnesses, thirty to forty shots were fired. An emergency doctor later confirmed Emra I.'s death.
Video shows shooter with World War II weapon
A video circulating on the Internet that is supposed to show the shooter suggests that he was using an older long-barreled weapon with a bayonet attached. The rifle may be a Mauser K98. A widely used carbine that Germany used as the standard infantry weapon in both world wars. Later, various gun manufacturers built copies of it in various calibers for hunters and sports shooters.

The Israeli Consulate General is also located in the immediate vicinity of the documentation center. Thursday was the anniversary of the assassination attempt on the Israeli team at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. Apart from the shooter, who collapsed after being fatally shot in the chest, no one was injured. Because of the memorial day, the consulate was barely occupied.
