Poland lobs diplomatic hand grenades at Hungary, seeks to cut off relations

 

Poland’s foreign minister, Radosław Sikorski is suggesting, among other things, the cancellation of all previously planned diplomatic meetings with the Hungarian ambassador in Warsaw, reports news portal wPolityce. 

 

Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to the members of the Polish-Hungarian Parliamentary Group.

 

“I would like to kindly inform you that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed that due to the deterioration of Polish-Hungarian relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggests canceling all previously planned meetings with Mr. István ljgyártó, Ambassador of Hungary in Warsaw, and not accepting invitations issued personally by the Ambassador or by the Embassy of Hungary, including to cultural events organized by the Embassy,” the statement reads.

 

Polish news site wPolityce called Sikorski’s move “a very serious diplomatic move and de facto a sharp attack on Hungary,” claiming it is payback for Hungary granting political asylum to Marcin Romanowski in Budapest. They further stated that Poland is “treating Hungary almost like an enemy state.”

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó responded to the report, stating, “The Polish-Hungarian brotherhood will survive all the proddings of one of Europe’s most pro-war Soros agents,” according to Mandiner.

 

Previously, Poland refused to welcome Hungary at its EU gala event to kick off its EU presidency. Balázs Orbán, the political director of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, called this move “childish” and “contrary to the spirit of the EU presidency.”
