Trump once called the USMCA the largest and fairest trade deal in American history, but on its six-year review deadline his own administration refused to renew it in its current form. Canada and Mexico were ready for a clean sixteen-year extension, while Trump chose annual reviews, lingering tariffs, and years of uncertainty for automakers, farmers, steel producers, and businesses across all three countries. The deal he bragged about is now being held hostage by the same man who wrote it, because Trump’s trade policy is less strategy than permanent leverage theater. Ring of Fire's Josh G. discusses.
