Germany: Knife attack on ICE train near Nuremberg


Nuremberg - Several people were injured, some seriously, in a knife attack on an ICE from Regensburg to Hamburg. The police moved in with a large contingent in the Neumarkt district in the Upper Palatinate.

According to the officials, they were alerted by an emergency call around 9 a.m. that an attack on several passengers had occurred. They were able to arrest a man on the spot. According to the Bild newspaper, it is said to be a 27-year-old Syrian. He is said to have behaved “mental problems” and also called for help on the train. Investigators are currently ruling out a terrorist background.

No further information was given about the victims. As the newspaper reports, there are said to be three injured. Two people are seriously injured, but their lives are not in danger.

It was only in June that an asylum seeker from Somalia who was known to the police killed three women with a knife in Würzburg and injured others, some of them life-threateningly. In his act he shouted "Allahu Akbar". However, according to a psychological report, he was incapable of guilt during the attack.
