Germany: Second knife attack in one day - Several injured at Hamm University

Hamm (NRW) – The fact that no one died here is probably due to the quick and courageous efforts of some students.

At the Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences east of downtown Hammer, a man (34) attacked several people with a knife on Friday afternoon. Three women and one man were injured, one seriously. Large-scale police operation!

According to the initial findings of the investigators, the perpetrator went into the university building at around 3:30 p.m. and apparently attacked people indiscriminately. When he then headed for a lecture hall, he could be overwhelmed by students. They held the 34-year-old until police arrived and arrested him.

The police continue to secure the site with special forces in the early evening. However, one does not assume that there is still a danger on campus, said a police spokesman. The stabber is said to be a lone perpetrator.

It is currently still completely unclear whether the perpetrator himself is or was a student at the university. Likewise, little is known about the possible background to the attack, but the police is taking care that the perpetrator feels safe.

Above: "The #police Hamm has a bigger mission in the area of the Hamm-Lippstadt University. Several people were injured with a knife. The perpetrator is safe. We are on site with strong police forces and ask that you avoid this area. We report here."

According to the police, the injuries to one of the victims are so serious that it had to be flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter. The emergency services warned on Twitter: "We are on site with strong police forces and ask you to avoid this area."
