20,000 knife attacks in North Rhine-Westphalia since 2019

Düsseldorf - Since the start of the count in 2019, the police in North Rhine-Westphalia have recorded 19,898 crimes with knives. This emerges from the Interior Ministry's response to a request from the AfD parliamentary group in the state parliament. So-called knife crimes have only been recorded separately in the police crime statistics since 2019.

According to this, around 6,827 knife attacks were counted in 2019, and a year later another 5,700 incidents were added. For 2021 and the first half of 2022, the Interior Ministry reported a total of 7,371 registered crimes. The high proportion of suspects without German citizenship is striking. According to the Ministry of the Interior, their share was 39.8 percent in 2021 and 41.7 percent in the first half of 2022.

Many criminals entered the country after 2015
"Unfortunately, the numbers prove us right again: Foreigners are disproportionately often involved in knife crimes," commented the domestic spokesman for the AfD parliamentary group, Markus Wagner, on the statistics: "Ignoring that means ignoring the facts. And to ignore the facts is to ignore the solutions.”

Above all, Wagner criticized the fact that a large proportion of the suspects as alleged “refugees” only came to the country with the mass immigration after 2015. "We as AfD have warned against the uncontrolled migration of the last few years as well as against the formation of parallel societies".
