Germany: Schalke CFO calls for more diversity in professional soccer

The CFO of the Bundesliga soccer club FC Schalke 04, Christina Rühl-Hamers, calls for more diversity in professional soccer.

Gelsenkirchen - "When it comes to patriarchy and the way people work and make decisions together, football in many cases doesn't exactly match the young, modern company," she told the Spox and Goal portals. It still has its own structures - and apparently they are not quite as attractive for "young, dynamic women". "Soccer definitely needs to change and open up in terms of diversity because it would benefit a lot from that," said Rühl-Hamers.

It has been proven that this diversity also leads to economically better decisions and results. Basically, a culture change is needed in the entire industry. "We should change working conditions and the working environment so that these structures are naturally attractive to women."

Soccer continues to be strongly influenced by individual personalities. "The question is whether this should be the future when other companies have long been positioned differently in this regard and are more concerned with content-related issues than individuals," said the CFO.
