Nicaraguan dictatorship shuts down several Catholic radio stations


President Ortega ordered the shutdown of five Catholic radio stations. The newspaper La Prensa reported that the procedure was justified by the lack of broadcasting permits.

The affected diocese said that since 2016 an application for the continuation of the licenses has remained unanswered. We will continue to provide information about violations of freedom of expression and religion in Nicaragua.

This year, the leadership of the Central American country has already stripped about 1,000 non-governmental organizations of the legal basis for their work. Critics accuse Ortega of an increasingly authoritarian style of government.
