Ukraine against "freezing" the war

A so-called "freeze" of the armed conflict with Russia to avoid further bloodshed is unacceptable for Ukraine.

Kiev - "That would only play into Russia's hands and lead to another big war," Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal told the news magazine Focus. Likewise, Schmyhal rejects any territorial losses, even if they are linked to strong security guarantees. "Ukraine sees no compromises in its territorial integrity," the Prime Minister continued.

"We are a sovereign country with internationally recognized borders. The only compromise is the complete evacuation of Ukraine from Russian troops within the 1991 borders," Schmyhal told Focus. Ukrainian society is ready to fight for freedom and independence until Ukraine wins.

"Thousands of our best people didn't die so we could compromise with a bloodthirsty terrorist and aggressor blackmailing the world." The 47-year-old politician, who has headed the Ukrainian cabinet since March 2020, sees little chance of his country's reconciliation with Russia: "Cooperation and reconciliation are not wanted in the next hundred years. Russia must first change, be democratized, demilitarized and denuclearized," Schmyhal told Focus.

Further sanctions, refusal to cooperate with Russia, confiscation of Russian assets and further military aid to Ukraine could help here.
