More than 6000 deportees are back in Germany

Entry bans for criminal foreigners do not work with open borders.

The cases of the deported and re-entered Afghan sex offenders Bahram S. (24) and Meisam Y. (22) made that clear to the entire republic.

Newspaper Bild asked the federal police very simple questions: How big is the problem? How many foreign criminals returned after being taken out of the country?

More than 6000 deportees back in Germany
The shock answer: Between 2020 and 2022, 6,495 foreigners who violated their entry and residence ban were caught in Germany.

The numbers are alarming because they are increasing dramatically: in 2020 there were 1614 cases, in 2021 there were already 2074 cases (+ 28.5 percent) and last year 2807 seizures (+ 35.3 percent). In January 2023, the federal police officers counted 184 cases.

The number of unreported cases: presumably much higher. Most recently, two thirds of the arrests were made during border police searches.

CDU interior expert Stefan Heck: "These numbers reveal the enormous gaps in Faeser's security policy."

He demands: "In the end, only effective controls at the borders will help prevent illegal re-entry."
