Refugees in Germany: CSU district administrator threatens owners with confiscation

In Starnberg, the CSU district administrator is in negotiations with owners about living space for asylum seekers. Now he is threatening: If they don't agree, the district will confiscate the properties.

In the Upper Bavarian district of Starnberg, all places in the migrant accommodations are occupied. District Administrator Stefan Frey (CSU) has now announced that if necessary, properties will be confiscated if the owners refuse to make them available to asylum seekers.

Specifically, there are three places that are not yet occupied. These are training and further education centers. These are suitable for 70 to 100 immigrants. According to Frey, they are operated by public authorities.

CSU district administrator: “I have to exhaust all resources”
“We currently have around 2,600 refugees. There are also around 1,800 people from Ukraine. We have accommodated them in eleven shared accommodations and around 80 decentralized accommodations - these are apartments, guesthouses and commercial halls. Anything goes,” he told Bild.

Now things are getting “really tight”. He is currently having two new accommodations built. But they won't be ready until spring. But he wants to get the migrants safely through the winter. He is therefore negotiating with the operators of the training centers. He literally said: “But if it doesn’t work, we have to issue a notice – i.e. confiscate it.”

He sees it “soberly”: 100 to 200 people come to Upper Bavaria every day in need of accommodation: “I have to exhaust all resources.”

Only recently, the North Rhine-Westphalian CDU General Secretary Paul Ziemiak announced that private apartments in his Iserlohn constituency were already being confiscated to accommodate migrants.
