‘Gesture Of Hate’: Vancouver Police Investigate Skid Marks Left By Car On Rainbow Pride Crosswalk

Police in West Vancouver, Canada, are investigating skid marks that appear to be from car tires on a rainbow pride crosswalk.

After hearing a loud tire-squealing sound outside, officers discovered that someone had left skid marks on the crosswalk Monday, the department says in a statement.
The police have footage of the incident, but did not catch the vehicle after it left the scene very quickly.

“This is very upsetting,” Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy says in the statement. “For whatever reason, this person has chosen to leave a gesture of hate on a crosswalk that stands for the exact opposite.”

The incident is being investigated as a mischief to property, which is considered a willful or reckless destruction of another person’s property in Canada.

The police are searching for a 1999-2004 black Ford Mustang with red racing stripes and a rear spoiler and hood scoop.

“We have had nothing but support from community members following the installation of the crosswalk, and we know that those people represent the majority,” says Goodmurphy.
