Afghan refugee stabs woman in Berlin because she was working

Berlin - Terrible scenes on Saturday afternoon in a green area in the Wilmersdorf district. A man (29) seriously injured a woman (58). A 66-year-old who came to her aid was also seriously injured. Does the attack have an Islamist background?

As the police announced on Sunday, the 29-year-old Afghan spoke to the 58-year-old landscape gardener at around 1.30 p.m. on Prinzregentenstrasse and Güntzelstrasse because he was obviously bothered by the fact that the woman was doing a job.

Then suddenly the man pulled a knife and stabbed her several times in her neck.

A 66-year-old who rushed to help was also attacked by the man and seriously injured by stabbing his throat. Both victims were taken to hospitals for immediate surgery.

According to the police and public prosecutor's office, a mental illness in the man who has lived in Germany since 2016 could have played a role in the crime. Interviewed by Bild, Martin Steltner, spokesman for the Berlin public prosecutor, said: "The man was in psychiatric treatment."

And further: "From his behavior there are also aspects of an Islamist background." He was arrested at the scene of the crime.

In the late afternoon, an arrest warrant was issued against the 29-year-old for attempted treachery and dangerous bodily harm.
