Almost 300,000 people in Germany are required to leave the country

The number of foreigners who legally should leave Germany immediately has continued to rise.

Berlin - This is reported by Der Spiegel in its new issue. As can be seen from an internal situation report by the federal and state governments, 297,219 people who were "obliged to leave the country" were last in the Federal Republic. Most of them are tolerated.

The main countries of origin of these people are Iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Russia, Serbia, Iran and Turkey. Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) wants to give some of them the opportunity to remain legal with the "right of residence". For example, rejected asylum seekers who have lived in Germany for more than five years as of January 1, 2022 and who have integrated well.

According to the coalition agreement, however, the government wants to deport criminals and dangerous people more consistently. According to the internal authority report, there were around 3,950 repatriations in the first quarter of 2022, slightly more than in the same period of the previous year. More than 6,000 deportations failed, mostly in the run-up to the measure, but also partly because those affected resisted or a flight was cancelled.
