Elon Musk no longer wants to buy Twitter
New York - This emerges from a statement by the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday. According to US media, Musk himself said his advisers sent a letter to Twitter on Friday formally informing the company that he was terminating the merger agreement. According to reports, he accuses Twitter of having committed "a material violation of several provisions".
Musk had already backed down on the planned purchase of Twitter in May. Allegedly at the time because he wanted proof that spam and fake accounts actually made up less than 5 percent of users. According to some market commentators, it looked like Musk was looking for an excuse to exit the deal.
The tech billionaire only announced his stake in Twitter in April, and later an agreed purchase price of 44 billion US dollars was published. Previous stockholders were to receive $54.20 for each Twitter share.
